What is your vision of the good life and better future you are looking forward to?

— by Tom Sine —

As we race towards Christmas 2012 and a very uncertain new year what is your vision of the good life and better future you are looking forward to and giving your life to?

Last week we met Mark and Lisa Scandrette and their Reimagine Community in San Francisco. As we learned these followers of Jesus help one another find creative ways to become whole life disciples and stewards for the sake of their neighbors.

These good people are clearly swimming upstream just like the young at Christ United Methodist Church in Bethel Park Pa.  These young people and their congregation have created “an evening of service” as a way to reimagine how to celebrate Christmas.  They created projects in 8 different work sites such as preparing “soup in a jar” for care for their neighbors in these tough times.

Would you like to join those believers who are re-imagining how they celebrate Christmas and steward their lives to benefit their most vulnerable neighbors?  Then begin the journey by answering the question “what is your vision of the good life and better future to which we give our lives?”…either consciously or unconsciously.

Is it possible many of us have unwittingly allowed the seductions of the global mall during this season and throughout the year to define our notions about what is important and of value?

Is it possible that many of us have settled for a very dualistic faith where our notions of good life are shaped more by the culture and the global mall rather than our faith?  Is it possible that few of us including evangelicals, who claim a high view of scripture, ever bring scripture to bare on redefining our cultural values…particularly our notion of the good life?

Are you ready, as we approach the birth of Christ, to start the journey toward whole life discipleship and stewardship?  Are you ready to join those who are discovering the good life of God is not found in seeking life?  Are you ready to follow the Jesus who claims that the good life of God is never found in seeking life but in losing our lives in service to God and our neighbors? Are you ready to begin the journey towards a whole life faith?

How is God challenging you in this season of new beginnings to redefine the good life and discover creative new ways God might use your mustard seed to make a little difference in the lives of others?  Write me today and tell me about your vision of the good life and the ways God is using your mustard seed to make a little difference in these very turbulent times!
