Shalom! Are We Listening?

Hands plunged deep into rich, moist earth
Pulled back filled with life
From such our lives were formed

“Very Good!” God proclaimed
breathing life into all creation
How easily we forget the One who made it all

“Shalom!” shouts the earth
crafted from the beginning
interdependent coexistence

“Shalom” begs the whole creation
How long will you wage war
against the soil of life and the One who made it?

Feigning innocence we hide our heads in the sand
at the same time using and abusing creation
From such our lives were redeemed

“Shalom!” we cry, “Shalom, Shalom!”
Slipping through fingers shalom drifts to the ground
sterile dust in hands refusing collaboration
